Tones are a collectible resource obtained through Tools or by Brewing Tea.

Currently there are four tones - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter - to reflect the four seasons.

Tones can either be permanent or temporary.

Uses for Tones

Seasonable Harvests

Tones are primarily used for harvesting seasonal Plants.

A player must have more than 1 of a given tone to harvest a seasonal harvestable. If the harvest is successful, the tone will be spent in exchange for the item.

When Focusing on individual plants, a list of possible harvestables will appear if the plant has previously been Recorded. This information is also available from the Encyclopaedia.

Unlocking Dialogue

Some dialogue options are only available if the player has the required number of tones to spend.

This is currently only required when guiding Lost Spirits.

Obtaining Tones

Different equipment may generate tones. Not all Tools generate tones. When hovering over a tool in your inventory, it will tell you what will trigger a tone to generate in the blue tone window.

Permanent vs Temporary Tones

Depending on how a tone is generated dictates whether the tone is temporary or permanent.

Generally, tones generated through equipment are permanent, and tones generated through Tea are temporary.

Temporary tones will only last for a given time, but can be spent the same as permanent tones while they are available.

Out of Season

Tones of a given season are typically easier to generate while the Garden is in that season - ie. Spring tones will be more plentiful in Spring. This is because equipment generally generates a tone of the current season, but also because flowers (which do not require tones to pick) are balanced to provide plentiful tones of their flowering season when brewing tea.

Alternatively, seasonal harvestables, which require tones, provide ways to generate tones of other seasons. For example - Cinnamon requires Spring tones to collect, but will convert Spring tones to Autumn tones when brewing tea.

Players can get tones that are out of season either by Brewing Tea, using a Songfish or enabling a Constellation.
